Turnin’ and burnin’!!

Got the shelves done today for the cabinets - the bottom section, face frame and doors rough cut. Should be pretty much finished with the bottom section tomorrow or Friday morning - then paint ‘em up and take ‘em to their new home.

I’m refinishing a table and chairs - to get the color just right, I’m doing small swatches on the bottom of the chair (where no one will see them). I did a test strip on a piece of scrap of the same kind of wood, but it just wasn’t close enough the the actual old wood to get a realistic idea of how they will look. I love the challenge of getting “just so” - makes you feel good when it comes together!

Lots goin’ on. Went to Mt. Storm today and got some wood pix for client. We’re going wood shopping soon - way fun!

Drawings, drawings and more drawings...

Drawings, drawings and more drawings, and I’m still not finished. I’m, starting a bedroom set for a nice couple in Healdsburg. Panel bed, a couple of night stands, and entertainment armoire and a custom built chair and ottoman. It is really fun. The lady is very creative, and the designs are a version of arts and crafts fused with some old mission style - and some asian influence as well. Very nice. I’ll post some when we’re finished. Looks like we’re going shopping for wood next week.

Plus, I’ve got a small circular table of Alder to make for a new dentists office. And an interior designer wants a couple of tables: a 5’ X 5’ coffee table with some map drawers and a side table.

Finally got into my shop and did some work! I’m making some reproduction cabinets for a winery. New stuff that looks old and kind of funky. A nice project - should be pretty quickly compteted. You can see the sides of the cabinets, glued up, in the clamps, standing up by my red tool box.

More work

This is going to be a busy and fun week!

Well, I got an order for three more projects today. 3 tables for two different clients.

One is a pretty simple pedestal table of Alder with a bit of a colonial look. It is for a dentist office conference room.

The other two are for a coffee table with some map drawers and another side table - sort of distressed finish.

I got the tin for the two cabinets for the winery. I'll most likely finish the cabinets by the begining of next week.

Time to get back in the shop again!! I love being busy! There is truth in the saying if you want something done give it to a busy person, they'll get it done. When I'm busy, I get lots of stuff done, when I only have a little to do, I'm not nearly as efficient... I think most folks are that way.

Not just wood work

I’ve been doing lots of designing, as well as working on three projects. The weather has slowed the some of the processes down, especially on the refinishing work!

I’m pretty happy with the bedroom set I’ve designed for some folks a bit south of here. It is an arts and crafts style bed, night stands, and dresser with top section and mirror. I think we’re going to make it of Madrone and Walnut. These folks are California natives, and it seems appropriate to make it out of all California wood. I've shown two different styles of legs and they are ruminating over that and some of the details.

I've also been drawing up a number of other projects - we'll see them as they happen.

Gotta go do some work!
