Paint week +

This week I've been working on paint samples for a client. Nothing so exciting as watching paint dry {yawn - ZZZZzzzzzz}. It is a pretty essential part of the project though - getting the cient's exact color can take some time.

Not all watching paint dry though. I've also been working on the design drawings for the bedroom set I'm building. That is a fun job - all my mistakes are on paper so far...

Have a great Memorial Day weekend!

La Table et fini

Ok, a bit on the pretentious side, but the table is “outta here” this morning. Doneski! Looks sweet too! Several coats of top coat on the top and 6 coats of wax - it brings the beauty of the wood out and lets it speak for itself.

Gotta go start on two more tables, the refinishing project and a bunch more stuff [like find some more Granadillo].

More later!

The dentist’s table

I’m finishing up the table for the dentist’s conference room. A small 36” table, originally a drop leaf and now, Abracadabra and Prestchango, a fixed top. The stains on the table top are a bit of water to tighten the joints - not that they needed much. I usually do this and then sand it all flush - makes for a nice finished look. The other pieces are stained, ready for the top coat. I’ll sand and stain the top tomorrow and finish it Wednesday - or that is the plan.

I should get the chair rung for my refinishing project back this week and finish rebuilding it! I love building chairs! I really do.

Then I will need to pick-up the other three chairs and table - way fun!! The folks are really nice and once I get the table and chairs I need to get it back to them ASAP. I can just see them all standing around eating diner in their dining room mumbling words about the cabinetmaker. Naw, I’ll get it back to them as soon as it is possible to get done. Nice table too!

I’m also doing finish samples for a client for a large hutch. Old look, lots of patina and distress on it. A real challenge - big too! they are figuring out what all they want in it now.

Gotta go make some popcorn and watch The Donald [a pathetic weakness I know].

Out the door

I finished the “country cabinets” for one of the local wine country stores today. They fit right into the ambience of the store, which has been there nearly 100 years. It felt good to have my stuff in such good company. In a few months, they too will have a nice patina which seems to go with the place.

I will start work on the table for a local dentist on Monday, as well as a whole bunch of approval drawings for different folks. And... I hope to make some serious progress refinishing the table and chairs.

This weekend, I’m gong to plant some crops with my sons on their “micro-farms” [a couple of 1/2 wine barrels]. Hope your weekend is as good as mine!

Still on fire!

This is a busy week. Lots of fun.

I just had a commission from a very nice lady for a full set of bedroom furniture: King size bed, 2 night stands with bottom cabinet, a sizable armoire/entertainment center for a plasma TV; and a totally awesome chair [with footstool of course]. The entire set will be made of Granadillo. It will be quite elegant - likely even stunning.

She likes a modified arts and crafts/mission style with an “elegant clunkiness”. She is a very bright and creative soul with definite, yet enlightened visions of what she wants. It is a pleasure to help bring her ideas to life!

I have shown the conceptual sketches for the bedroom set. I’m really excited to begin this project.

Still have a goodly bit of work in the shop. A couple of cabinets for one of the local wineries will go out this week.

I’m expecting wood for a local dentists office table. And still have the coffee table and side table on the drawing boards. I hope it too will go out by week’s end - or the first part of next week.

My refinishing project is starting to move along more rapidly with the good weather. I hope to have it finished about the middle of June.

More pix next time - my new “old” cabinets.
