Faux oldies

Here are a couple of faux oldies I did a while ago.

A dictionary/book stand [an obsolete piece of furniture as everyone now uses Wikipedia] - it is well designed. It will fit either free standing or up against a wall. Makes a great storage place for atlases and other large books.

A simple bench - great for tying your shoes, or just sitting in the shade.

Both are built with through tenons and mortise and tenon construction. Milk Paint and a water based poly-urethane, waterproof finish. they should last 100 years or so.

Mutterings for a Monday

Seriousness is the only refuge of the shallow.

I think this is a real truth.

Mutterings for a Monday

Eccentricity is not, as dull people would have us believe, a form of madness. It is often a kind of innocent pride, and the man of genius and the aristocrat are frequently regarded as eccentrics because genius and aristocrat are entirely unafraid of and uninfluenced by the opinions and vagaries of the crowd.

And some more drawings

These are some of a series of kitchen drawings I'm doing for a client who will be doing some serious remodeling of their kitchen.

These are 2-D renderings of the 3-D files. Clients actually "walk through" the installation on their own computers - free. It is a good deal.

It is a really great tool for clients to be able to literally walk through their new kitchen, or living room or bed room or garden. A good many folks don't work with 2-D plans and elevations and have a hard time translating those into a real design. This does the job very well and quickly too.

In the earlier posts, I used actual drawings from Marvin Windows to do the drawings. They are accurate and complete. And the client gets a real benefit! A good thing in these tough times.

A recent project

I recently did some 3-D drawings for a local contractor who was designing a window wall for a client. He took some pix of their house and gave me a quick sketch of what he wanted to do and I did a 3-D rendering of the client's new room.

For an expensive addition, the cost was little, and showed the client how their rooms will look after the project is finished. A real boon for all involved with the project.

The images here are 2_d renderings of the 3-D images I do for clients.

The first two images show the interior looking out. The detail of the house is accurate down to the Persian rug, the flowers on the tables and the pictures on the tables [OK maybe not the exact picture]. the client is able to "walk through" the house and see any view they want - it is surprisingly realistic. These clients wanted the people out of their house!

This image shows the view from the outside looking in.

This was all done using SketchUp. I sent the file to the contractor who reviewed it for accuracy and content. To avoid all the "gotchas" in sending a large file these days, I uploaded it to my FTP site and the client downloaded it to his computer. He also downloaded the free viewer from SketchUp.

The clients could quickly see what their home would look like with the new windows and asked the contractor for a couple of minor changes and went ahead with the job. The contractor thought that without the 3-D renderings the project would have taken a month or more to initiate. The client loved being able to "walk through" their "new" home and see it as it will be.

A real win-win for everyone. I routinely provide this service for my clients for both furniture and cabinets. Everyone likes to see what the new stuff will look like when it is in their house.

I'll have some more projects later this weekend.

A custom cabinet

Lest you all think I've been slacking, here is an image of a recent cabinet I did for a lady. Different kind of style. Way cool house - up in the trees, very pretty, great view!

The existing cabinets have been there for over 10 years. My paint supplier computer matched the stain and got it just about right on the money. The refrigerator is a built in - they have some plumbing work to do behind which is why it is sticking out a bit.

I'll have some drawings of some of the work I've been working on over the next several days - kind of catch up.
